How to Play the Top Ten Hands in No Limit Texas Hold’em Poker
by scott on Jun.05, 2008, under Poker Tips
What Are The Hands?
Just incase you missed out, here are the “Top Ten” hands in No Limit Texas Hold’em Poker:
1. A-A
2. K-K
3. Q-Q
4. A-K
5. J-J
6. 10-10
7. 9-9
8. 8-8
9. A-Q
10. 7-7
What to Do With These Hands
This is where the fun begins. If you’ve got a hand like this with a medium or high chip stack, you’ve done your job well. You need to make sure now that you don’t give yourself away. Would you rather just take the blinds pot (the pot of all the betting before the flop) or would you rather take a pot that has gone through all the rounds of betting? Hopefully you chose the last option.
To get as much out of the pot as possible, you need to play the other players. You need to make them get their confidence up and make them think they have the better hand. What you’re going to have to aim to do is, you’ll have to call everything, but do it in a way where you give off the “I’ve got a bad hand and I’m unsure if I should stay in or not” attitude. If someone raises the blinds, you need to hesitate and act slowly. When the person who put in the raise is looking, you need to act stressed and look at your cards again. When you’re looking at them, put a puzzled look on your face and slowly put them back down.
But, make sure you play it right. If you can manage to pull all of the previous steps off successfully, try a couple more. Ask the dealer or the person who put in the raise how much it is while slowly reaching for your chips. Be reluctant to call them, but make sure you do. Once you do that, they’ll think that your hand is weak and once the flop is dealt, they’ll probably try to take you down. Keep on calling, and if you dare to, raise them. And if someone else raises that, don’t do exactly the same as before, but give off the “aw come on!” attitude. If you can pull this off, you will max out your pots and will keep the winnings coming in fast.
Common Beginner Mistakes
by scott on Jun.05, 2008, under Poker Tips
Introduction
Before you sit down and begin to play no limit poker, you need to exercise cautions. Many players are unaware that there are huge mistakes in poker that many beginners make that could take you from the chip leader to the first person out of the tournament. Here’s a couple mistakes that could help you win the big winnings.
3 Beginner Mistakes That Can Really Hurt You
1. Superstitions – I’ve seen way too many people playing no limit poker, and while the betting is taking place and the cards being dealt, they hold onto a “lucky” object or do something they consider lucky. You cannot rely on superstitions for your gambling success. You need to watch yourself and use your brain, not a rock. Chances are way better when you think things out than when you throw all your money away because the picture of your family members was on the table with your chips.
2. Emotions After A Bad Loss – When you lose a hand, you need to get over it. You can’t just sit there and get all gloomy because you took a bad beat. Chances are that if you get all gloomy, you’ll stop thinking things through, or sometimes you’ll even over think things through, and you will end up losing more and more. When you take a bad loss, get over it, suck it up, and get back into your zone.
3. Emotions After A Great Win – You have to realize, you’re not Superman. If you win a $1 million pot in a no limit game, that doesn’t mean you can take down anyone who goes against you. If you’re playing with high stakes like that, you can go ahead and guess that there are some great players out there that will do everything they can to take you down. And, if you feel that invincible, you will probably end up playing way too many hands and you can soon kiss those chips you just won, Goodbye.
